John F. Young is a member of Block Markus Williams LLC and specializes in commercial litigation and the representation of secured creditors, lessors, asset purchasers, debtors, official committees and trustees in workouts, restructurings, and bankruptcy proceedings. Some of the bankruptcies in which John has represented significant interests are America West Airlines, Inc., Braniff Airlines, Inc., Schwinn Bicycle Company, Midway Airlines, Inc., Convergent Communications, Inc., Recycling Industries, Inc., McCrory Corp., Rimsat, Ltd., Envirodyne Industries, Inc. Energy Fuels, Ltd., Nuexco Trading Corporation, Western Pacific Airlines, Inc., and Geneva Steel LLC.
John has served as chairman of the Bankruptcy Subsection of the Colorado Bar Association and is certified as a business bankruptcy specialist by the American Board of Certification. He is an active member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Bankruptcy Subsection of the Colorado Bar Association, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Faculty of Federal Advocates. John serves as member of the executive committee and the board of directors of the American Board of Certification and serves as a program advisor for the American Bankruptcy Institute's Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference. John is a Co-Chair of the Real Estate Committee for the American Bankruptcy Institute. John is also a member of the Bankruptcy Court Liaison Committee for the Faculty of Federal Advocates. John is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law and is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell.
John is the author of numerous articles on creditors' rights and bankruptcy law including "Enforcement of Pre-Petition Waivers of the Automatic Stay" for The Colorado Lawyer and “Healthcare Bankruptcies - Eligibility Issues” for the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal. In addition, he is a frequent lecturer on various issues related to creditors' rights and bankruptcy law.
Prior to joining Block Markus & Williams LLC, John practiced commercial litigation and bankruptcy and insolvency law with the national law firm of Keck, Mahin & Cate in Chicago, Illinois.
John received his B.S. degree in business from the University of Colorado in 1985 and his J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of Denver in 1990 (where he was admitted to the Order of St. Ives).
