Keith Block is a co-founder of Block Markus & Williams LLC and has specialized in the representation of asset-based lenders, equipment leasing companies, project finance companies, aircraft finance companies, agricultural lenders, commercial banks, franchise finance companies, and other commercial lending institutions since 1979. Among his other accomplishments, Keith is one of the foremost attorneys in the country in financing fractional interests in aircraft and is one of the pioneers in leasing and lending against such interests outside of the United States of America.
Keith is the first and only attorney from the Rocky Mountain region to have been elected to be a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Attorneys. He also has been selected as on of the Best Lawyers in America in the areas of equipment leasing finance and structured finance.
Keith has served as an Adjunct Professor on the Uniform Commercial Code for the University of Denver College of Law; the Chairman of the Commercial Law Subsection and a member of the Financial Institutions Subsection and Committee to Revise the Uniform Commercial Code of the Colorado Bar Association; the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Leasing Documentation and a member of the Legal Committee and the Software and Technology and the International Convention for Mobile Goods Subcommittees of the Equipment Leasing Association of America; the Business Law Section and Commercial Financial Services, Developments in Business Financing, and Uniform Commercial Code Committees of the American Bar Association; the Association of Commercial Finance Attorneys, Inc.; the Association for Corporate Growth; and the Turnaround Management Association.
Keith has served as the editor-in-chief of the Lender Liability Law and Litigation treatise published by Matthew Bender & Company, Inc., as well as The Executive's Guide to Lease Documentation and The Executive's Guide to Remedies treatises published by the Equipment Leasing Association of America. He also has served as the contributing editor for the “Accounts and Inventory Financing” section of the Commercial Finance Guide treatise and the “Mergers and Acquisitions, Portfolio Purchases and Vendor Programs” section of the Equipment Leasing treatise published by Matthew Bender & Co., Inc., the Colorado section of the Compendium of Commercial Finance Law published by the Commercial Finance Association, and the Colorado sections of the Compendium of Leasing Law and Operations Manual published by the Equipment Leasing Association of America.
Keith has lectured and written articles on a variety of topics relating to the lending and leasing industries for the National Business Institute, Inc., Equipment Leasing Association of America, Colorado Bankers Association, Independent Bankers of Colorado, Independent Bankers of Wyoming, Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc., Strategic Research Institute, Inc., The Colorado Lawyer, and other legal and business organizations and publications.
Prior to founding Block Markus & Williams LLC, Keith was a partner and the Chair of the Asset-Based Lending, Equipment Leasing and Project Finance Practice Group for Rothgerber, Appel, Powers & Johnson. He also served as the Vice President and General Counsel for First Interstate Commercial Corporation as well as an Assistant General Counsel for Orbanco Financial Services Corporation and its subsidiaries, The Oregon Bank and Northwest Acceptance Corporation.
Keith received his B.A. degree from Middlebury College in l976 (where he was a College Scholar and a member of the Dean's List) and his J.D. degree from the Emory University School of Law in l979, where he was member of the Georgia Intrastate Moot Court Team and the National Moot Court Society. He is admitted to the Colorado and Oregon State Bars. |
